State Bush

Keeping in mind that Columbus is the State Capital, it is apparent like many other States that a state bird (Cardinal Grosbeak), state flower (Scarlet Carnation), etc have been chosen. Of course there has to be a state bush. A quick visit to the authorities on the state bush in Columbus proves it to be a very Happy Bush. The working variety of this bush commonly is not smiling, and often is to be seen with many dents, having been hit by moving vehicles around the area roadways. It appears the County Engineers for Franklin County do their best to keep this particular specimen in the best of cheer.

During the Winter holidays, they also go to great lengths to get in a substitute so the smiling fellow above can have a vacation. During this time, the specimen below shows up in the area and has been gracing the roof of the County Engineers building whenever Fall has ended and before Spring has arrived.
